ROUND 1

How a round works

Initiative decides the order (the cards under the top bar, left to right; the one acting drops down; tap a card to see that figure's numbers and gear). Ready characters roll Cool, surprised ones Vigilance: in a straight fight everyone is ready; in an ambush only the side that springs it is.
Everyone acts on their own turn. On a squad member's turn you play cards from the hand at the bottom: tap a card to read it, drag it onto the map to play it. Drop a Move card on the tile, an attack on the enemy (or tap them after), then CONFIRM — it happens now. Play the next card, or END TURN. Move–shoot–move works. A tap on the map with no card on the table only looks: a figure shows its card, a thing shows what it is.
The dots beside the hand are what is left: two cyan maneuvers, one magenta action. STATUS (right edge) shows every figure's wounds, strain and state.
Card colours: maneuver (Move up to 4 tiles, Aim +1 Boost, Take cover +1 ranged defense, Reload, Swap weapon, Prepare) and action (Shoot, Auto-fire, Throw, Strike, Punch, Break free, Put it out). One action and two maneuvers at most; the second maneuver costs 2 strain when you also take the action.
Conditions (by the book, Core p.114) show as pink tags: Disoriented (+1 Setback), Staggered (no action), Immobilized or Ensnared (no maneuvers; Ensnared can Break free), Burning (damage each turn; Put it out). A dashed dot means that part of the turn is gone. A squad member's Critical Injuries do what the table says: Hamstrung loses the free maneuver, Winded cannot buy a second one, Slowed Down acts in the last allied slot, Bleeding Out hurts every turn, The End Is Nigh dies at the end of next round… Enemies use a shorthand: a Critical is one more down.
Hand over: with an ally next to you, the Swap card can also give them a weapon, a keycard or the loot (Manage Gear, a maneuver). A weapon goes into their bag; they draw it later.
The weapon in hand decides the attack cards. Anything else comes out of the bag with Swap weapon (Manage Gear, a maneuver). Grenades too: draw one, then throw it; after the throw the hand is empty.
Once confirmed a card cannot be taken back (the dice are rolled). The chip over an enemy is the difficulty; a grey ✕ tag says why you cannot hit them.
While you drag or hold a card, the board shows what it reaches: cyan tiles for a Move, magenta tiles for an attack (its range band, cut off by walls; brighter = next to you).
Your rolls: the dice roll on screen; then you spend the Advantage and Triumph you rolled (Genesys Table I.6–2 plus the weapon's qualities: Critical, Blast, extra hits, Knockdown…, recover strain, Boost or Setback on later checks, a free maneuver, negate their defense, disarm them…). A Triumph pays for any Advantage option. Tap to pick, Undo, CONFIRM. Enemies (and Auto) spend theirs on their own.
END TURN: everyone after your character in the order plays until it is one of yours again. Enemies decide on their own turn.
Range bands from the map: next to = engaged, up to 4 tiles short, 9 medium, 16 long. Walls block sight, crates do not.
Weapon qualities all work (Ion and Tractor are for vehicles): Accurate, Inaccurate, Pierce, Breach, Vicious, Stun Damage, Limited Ammo, Prepare, Slow-Firing, Cumbersome, Unwieldy, Defensive, Deflection, Inferior, Superior, Reinforced. Advantage after a hit is spent for you, in this order: Blast, Critical, Auto-fire or Linked hits, then Knockdown, Stun, Disorient, Concussive, Ensnare, Burn (2 each), then Sunder (1 per step, even on a miss). A miss can still buy Blast or Guided with 3 Advantage.
Tap a thing on the map (loot, a keycard, a terminal, a panel, a locked door) to see what it is and which cards work on it; Play it when you stand next to it, or Walk next to it. Things nobody in your squad has seen yet are not on the map. The little arrow at a figure's feet is where it looks.
Sneak / Run (free, before anyone is found): sneaking halves your Move and lets you roll Stealth when a guard sees you; running moves you at full speed, but guards within medium range hear you and turn, and one that sees you running spots you at once. A silent weapon (blades, fists, anything silenced) that drops an unaware enemy in one attack raises nothing — if it is still standing, it shouts.
Missions (maps marked MISSION): objectives in the top bar (◇ done / needed; tap it for the list). You start sneaking: no initiative yet, your squad moves, then the guards walk their rounds. The red tiles are what an unaware guard (marked ?) sees: step into them and you roll Stealth against its Vigilance (harder up close); fail and you are spotted — initiative is rolled with their ambush. A shot (unless silenced) or a target left standing springs your ambush instead; a quiet takedown only makes noise. Noise (forcing doors, Threat on hacks and locks) fills the meter; full = they come running. Hack terminals (Computers) to open doors or kill the alarm panel, Pick lock (Skulduggery, quiet) or Force door (Athletics, loud), swipe a Keycard, Take the loot and walk it out an exit. Once found, a guard runs for the alarm panel; the alarm brings backup a couple of rounds later.
Called shot (a maneuver): aim at the weapon an enemy holds. Your next attack on them gets 2 Setback (two called Aims: 1) instead of the Boost; a hit knocks the weapon out of their hand instead of wounding them, and they spend an action to Recover it.
Threat and Despair you roll are spent by the other side (Genesys Table I.6–3): strain, losing your cover, a free maneuver for them (ducking into cover, or someone stepping in to protect the one you shot), a Boost for your target, a Setback on your next check, falling prone; a Despair empties your gun for the rest of the fight, damages your blade or upgrades your next check. Enemies spend their Advantage on you too.
Enemy personalities, picked per group in setup: aggressive (closes in), balanced (cover, keeps away from blades), holds ground (stays put and shoots), fearful (stays far, runs at the first loss), fanatic (flanks, never runs).
Grenades (Blast) catch everyone next to the target, your own people too. A miss with 3 Advantage still goes off. Each grenade is one throw.
Auto-fire is its own card on guns that have it: +1 difficulty, and every 2 Advantage is another hit.
Hazards (tap one on the map, or see STATUS): dark areas (◐) add 2 Setback to anything that needs to see into them, and hide you from guards past short range; fumes (☣) ask for a Resilience check each round you start or walk in them (else strain) and add 1 Setback; gaps are jumped with a Move maneuver (Athletics or Coordination, Average; a failure falls, Core p.112); traps (⚠) are hidden until someone spots them (Vigilance up close, Search further), then Disarm them or walk round — step on one and it goes off; switches (amber) are worked with Use. Field gear counts: goggles, cybereyes or a flashlight against the dark; a respirator, toxin filters or an O2 bottle against fumes; rope or a harness for jumps; a toolkit or scanner for traps; a lockbreaker or lockpick set for doors.
Step on a green EXIT to get out of the fight.
3D board: drag with one finger to move around, pinch to zoom toward a spot, twist two fingers to turn it, slide two fingers up or down together to tip the view a little. With a mouse: drag to move, right-drag or Shift+drag to turn (up / down tips the view), scroll to zoom. ⌖ puts the camera back; 2D switches to the flat map.
