The Beanstalk is a nanolattice of carbon (buckyweave heritage) rising from the Root in Chakana, through Midway Station, to the Castle on Challenger Planetoid. It opened for business around '35 and made mass access to space economically viable.

Named for the fairy tale and its builder Jack Weyland, it is both monument and chokepoint. Cargo, people, He-3, and military force move through it. During the Worlds War, control of the elevator was strategically existential.

Stations host hotels, casinos, NBN offices, and prisec. Climbers and freighters define an entire subculture of roughnecks and smugglers.
